Sheikh Hamdan reviews Jumeirah Beach 1 project as Dubai expands public beaches
text_fieldsDubai’s Jumeirah Beach 1 will reopen in February following a major redevelopment that increases its size and adds new public facilities, officials said.
The project, carried out by Dubai Municipality, expands the beachfront by 50 per cent and is close to completion, with works now 95 per cent finished. The redevelopment focuses on public access, leisure facilities and commercial activity along the coast.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, visited the site on Tuesday and said the project forms part of wider plans to upgrade beach infrastructure across the emirate.
“I reviewed the Jumeirah Beach 1 development project by Dubai Municipality, part of the plan to upgrade public beach infrastructure”, Sheikh Hamdan wrote on X.
“Aligned with the Quality of Life 2033 strategy and the Dubai Urban Master Plan 2040, the project expands the beach area by 50 per cent and is 95 per cent complete, creating a modern, integrated beach that enhances quality of life, offers top experiences for all, and reflects Dubai’s vision for its beaches to be the best and most beautiful in the world".
The redeveloped beach includes walking, cycling and jogging tracks, alongside other recreational and sports facilities. Officials said the site also offers more than 15 commercial opportunities linked to beach-related activities and services.
The Jumeirah Beach 1 works are linked to a wider coastal development drive announced in 2023 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai. That plan covers 54 kilometres of coastline, including Palm Jebel Ali, The Palm Jumeirah and Al Mamzar and includes enclosed beach areas, pedestrian routes, cafes and dining zones, as well as an 8km beach at Jebel Ali.
In 2024, authorities confirmed plans to build the emirate’s longest public beach at Jebel Ali, adding to ongoing coastal development across Dubai.
