The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has launched a new infrastructure initiative to build a 1.6-kilometer rubber walkway in Khorfakkan, aligning with the emirate’s strategy to promote healthier lifestyles and improve community infrastructure.

The project, initiated under the directives of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, is designed to serve residents and visitors around Khorfakkan Hospital and Al Bardi 6. With an average width of 4 meters, the walkway offers a safe, high-quality path for walking and jogging.

SRTA confirmed that the walkway will feature durable, standard-specification rubber materials to maximize user comfort. In coordination with Khorfakkan Municipality and the Public Works Department, approximately 5,000 square meters surrounding the path will be landscaped with ornamental plants and greenery.

The initiative is part of the broader internal road development project in Al Bardi 6, which includes the addition of pedestrian crossings to improve traffic safety and ease of movement in the area. Authorities noted that the walkway responds to Sharjah’s wider vision for sustainable urban growth, especially in the Eastern Region.

Once completed, the project will contribute to enhancing the quality of life by offering dedicated infrastructure for pedestrians and athletes, supporting the emirate’s drive toward smart and healthy city standards.
