Dubai: Indian citizens visiting or working in the UAE now have the convenience of making payments using the PhonePe App, thanks to the expansion of the company's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in the country. This initiative is the result of a partnership between PhonePe and Dubai-based Mashreq Bank.

With this partnership, transactions can be conducted at Mashreq's NEOPAY Terminals, which are available across various retail stores, dining outlets, tourist spots and leisure attractions in the UAE.

The partnership with Mashreq Bank allows for seamless transactions, with the account debit occurring in Indian rupees. The currency exchange rate is displayed at the terminal, ensuring transparency in the transaction process, according to PhonePe.

To activate PhonePe International, users need to open the PhonePe app, tap on their profile picture, select "UPI International" under the "Payment Settings" section, tap "Activate" next to the desired bank account and enter their UPI PIN to complete the activation process.

To make a payment in the UAE using the PhonePe app, users need to scan the QR code at any NEOPAY terminal. The account debit will occur in Indian rupees, simplifying the payment process for Indian citizens in the UAE.

Indian expats in the UAE can download the PhonePe app on their mobile phones, link their existing NRE (Non-Resident External) and NRO (Non-Resident Ordinary) accounts and make payments via the app at NEOPAY terminals, providing them with a convenient payment solution.

The expansion of PhonePe's UPI in the UAE, in partnership with Mashreq Bank, is set to make payment transactions easier and more convenient for Indian citizens visiting or residing in the UAE.
