Oman to extend COVID-19 preventive measures during Ramadan

Oman's Supreme Committee announced on Monday its decision to impose new restrictions and to extend the existing measures during the month of Ramadan to curb the spread of the pandemic, state news agency ONA reported.

A seven-hour night curfew, which includes the closure of all commercial activities and a ban on movement of vehicles and people outdoors, will be imposed from 9 PM TO 4 AM all through Ramadan. However, the state will allow individuals to step out and use vehicles in all provinces of Oman from Thursday (April 8) between 8 PM TO 5 AM until Ramadan 1.

Another major decision is that entry into the Sultanate will be limited to nationals and resident visa holders and will be effective from April 8.

Taraweeh prayers will not be permitted in mosques or public places during Ramadan. No social gatherings, including iftar meets in mosques or tents, are permitted during Ramadan.

All social, cultural and sports activities are also prohibited. The Committee advised all residents against travelling outside Oman unless for extreme necessity.

Oman's Ministry of Health recorded 1117 new cases of coronavirus, making the total positive cases to 164,274 as of Monday. in addition to 10 new Covid-19-related death cases. A total of Covid19-related death cases reached 1722, with ten new deaths recorded.
