Emirates to relocate to Al Maktoum International Airport by 2034

Dubai: Emirates Airlines is set to make a significant move as it prepares to relocate its operations to Al Maktoum International Airport by 2034, according to Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman and CEO of Emirates Airline and Group.
During a media briefing on Tuesday, Sheikh Ahmed revealed details of the relocation plan, emphasizing that the transition from Dubai International to Al Maktoum Airport will occur in one go. He assured stakeholders that operations will seamlessly continue during this pivotal period.
"The relocation to Al Maktoum Airport by 2034 is part of the D33 programme. You will wake up one day and the terminal is open and tested, and you will see flights from Al Maktoum Airport," Sheikh Ahmed said.
Highlighting the necessity of the move, Sheikh Ahmed highlights the rapid growth of the local aviation sector, affirming his confidence in the success of Al Maktoum Airport. He expressed concerns regarding the capacity constraints at Dubai International, emphasizing the need for additional infrastructure to accommodate the expanding fleet of Emirates Airlines.
The announcement follows the recent revelation by the Dubai government regarding the transfer of all operations from Dubai International (DXB) to Al Maktoum International (DWC) over the next few years. The ambitious plans include the construction of a new Dh128 billion passenger terminal at Dubai World Central, with the capacity to handle 260 million passengers annually.
