The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has completed significant work on over 6,000 mosques across Saudi Arabia in the first half of 2024, according to a report by the Saudi Press Agency. These efforts, encompassing maintenance, cleaning, restoration and furnishing projects, were undertaken at 6,153 mosques with a combined investment of nearly SR500 million ($133 million).

A large portion of the budget, SR362 million ($96 million), was directed toward maintenance efforts at more than 5,300 mosques. Additionally, air conditioning systems at key pilgrimage sites, including Miqat Al-Juhfah, Al-Taneem and Al-Mash’ar Al-Haram, were modernized as part of refurbishment efforts at a cost of SR15 million ($3.9 million).

The ministry also fully restored three mosques and constructed an administrative building, with a budget of SR13.5 million ($3.5 million). Glass partition projects were implemented at 683 mosques to improve energy efficiency, reducing electricity consumption by 60 percent.

Furnishing projects were completed at 66 mosques, covering 56,761 square meters, at a cost of SR6.8 million ($1.8 million). Furthermore, the ministry allocated over SR30 million ($7.9 million) for the maintenance of four affiliated buildings. These initiatives reflect the ministry’s dedication to providing clean, comfortable, and well-maintained mosques for worshippers throughout the Kingdom.
