Saudi announces bid to host World Expo 2030
text_fieldsSaudi Arabia's crown prince Mohammed bin Salman said that the country has submitted a formal request to host the World Expo 2030. The theme suggested by the kingdom is "The era of change: Leading the planet to a foresighted tomorrow."
He wrote in the letter to the organising body that we live in an era of change and face an unprecedented need for humanity's collective action. He added that the whole world needs to work together to foresee and address the future, reported Arab News.
He announced that the 2030 World Expo in Riyadh will coincide with the culmination of Saudi's Vision 2030. Kingdom's proposal to the Bureau International des Expositions read that the world's brightest minds need to address the challenges and opportunities coming from the changes.
The Kingdom had earlier revealed a strategic framework 'Vision 2030' to reduce the nation's dependence on oil, diversify the economy, and develop the public service sector. The crown prince had announced in 2016 that the government will be focusing on health, education, infrastructure, recreation, and tourism.
Prince Mohammed said that the new strategy represents Saudi's ambitions to create a sustainable future that will benefit future generations. He stated that the World Expo 2030 will be an opportunity to share the lessons learned in the transformation with the world, reported Arab News.
World Expos, officially known as international registered exhibitions, is dedicated to finding solutions to pressing challenges. Expo 2030 will take place from October 1 to April 1.
