King Salman Energy Park launches EV charger manufacturing plant
text_fieldsKing Salman Energy Park (SPARK) on Monday inaugurated the Smart Mobility plant, a facility dedicated to producing electric-vehicle chargers and opened the first EV charging station inside the park. The event took place at SPARK headquarters in Abqaiq with SPARK CEO Mishal Al-Zughaibi and Smart Mobility CEO Prince Fahad bin Nawaf in attendance.
Officials said the project supports the Kingdom’s industrial localization plans and is part of the Made in Saudi Program under policies overseen by the Local Content and Government Procurement Authority. The plant adds to SPARK’s broader objective of developing long-term industrial capabilities within the Kingdom.
Al-Zughaibi said SPARK is positioned to serve as a regional base for advanced industrial and energy technologies. He noted that its location near major energy infrastructure and its access to Arabian Gulf ports are intended to support manufacturing and export operations.
Prince Fahad bin Nawaf said Smart Mobility chose SPARK after a strategic assessment of sector needs, adding that EV charging should be treated as national infrastructure and developed alongside the Kingdom’s wider energy system. He said SPARK functions as a central hub for energy, logistics and industrial innovation.
He added that expanding the EV-charging network requires coordination with national energy assets. Commenting on the global shift in the mobility sector, he said discussions at the EV Auto Show Riyadh emphasized the need to move toward electric vehicles.
