First in the world, Saudi's flying museum takes visitors to AlUla's heritage

Riyadh: Saudi Arabia will be launching the world's first-ever flying museum on Thursday. The collaborative project of the Royal Commission for AlUla and the national flag carrier Saudi focuses on archaeological finds.

The highlight of the flying museum is that visitors will be on a plane journey between Riyadh and the ancient city of AlUla. It will exhibit a replica collection of artefacts found in AlUla through excavations, reported Arab News.

Rebecca Foote, director of archaeology and cultural heritage research at the commission, will also provide an introduction to the documentary 'Architects of Ancient Arabia' during the trip. The Discovery Channel documentary was released earlier this year and it will be played for visitors, reported Saudi Press Agency.

Foote said that people are only beginning to understand the complicated nature of AlUla's past as international and local archaeologists are working on the ancient city. Philip Jones, the commission's chief destination marketing officer, said that the work in AlUla is the "biggest archaeological programme" in the world right now.

Passengers onboard the flying museum will also have the chance to book their first tickets to the Masa Al-Hijr experience.
