Dammam to host 'Super Globe 2022' Handball World Club Championships

Dammam to host Super Globe 2022 Handball World Club Championships

Riyadh: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will host the IHF World Championship "Super Globe 2022" for the third time in a row between October 18 and 23, 2022, which will take place in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom. The championship is organized by the Ministry of Sport alongside the Saudi Arabian Handball Federation as a part of the Quality of Life Program. This 15th edition is the biggest since the launch of the championship in 1997 as 12 teams are set to participate in the event.

His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, Minister of Sports and Chairman of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee said in a press release: "We are happy once again to host the largest handball club championships, and with the participation of the continental champions for the third consecutive time, which is an extension of the events and tournaments it hosts by our dear country, with the direct support of our wise leadership and careful follow-up of His Highness, the Crown Prince - may God protect him –in reaching the targets of the Kingdom's Vision 2030."

His Highness added: "We wish all the success to our representatives, Mudhar and Al-Khaleej teams in this championship, and welcome to all the participating teams in their second country, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with God's help this edition will be outstanding on a technical level and admired by fans of this enjoyable sport".

The championship is hosted by the Ministry of Sports at the Dammam Sports Halls. 12 teams representing the seven continents led by the Kingdom's teams Mudhar and AL-Khaleej alongside the Spanish team Barcelona, European champion and with the most titles (five times), the German Magdeburg team, current title holder will be participating in the championship. In addition, the Kuwaiti Al-Kuwait "Asian Champion", Al-Ahli of Egypt (African Champion) and the Brazilian Taubate (South and Central American Champion), Ministros (North American and Caribbean Champion), University of Sydney Australia team (Oceania Champion), Kielce of Poland (Wild Card holder), Benfica of Portugal (Wild Card holder) and the Tunisian AL-Taraji "Arab Champion", will also be a part of the event.

The city of Dammam hosted the first edition in Saudi Arabia in 2019, after the Kingdom won the hosting rights for four years from 2019, whereas Jeddah hosted the last edition in 2021.
