Qatar adopts E-safety to ensure safety and quality of food items
text_fieldsDoha: Qatar is introducing the latest technology to ensure that all food items in the market are safe for consumption and health.
The new electronic system will document and inspect the quality of local, imported, and exported products. It is designed to establish a broad and effective communication system with companies operating in the field.
The Ministry of Health has designed the new electronic food safety system to ensure that all domestically produced and imported food products are marketed only after scientific testing. It aims to ensure the quality of food items throughout the country through rigorous and state-of-the-art laboratory systems.
The system will be updated regularly by inspecting locally made foods, factories, restaurants, hotels, and other facilities in the area. It will also implement regular checking of documents, filling out checklists, and submitting inspection reports.
In addition to using state-of-the-art electronic tablets for food testing, part of the plan is to convert all services to scientifically based electronic testing.
Director of food safety at the Department of Health, Wasan Abdullah al-Bakir said that the system will be soon implemented on a trial basis. The Ministry announced 1983 companies and 1.63 lakh products have been registered in the country.
The new system will enable electronic inspection, document inspection, and virtual inspection of food items imported and exported through Hamad International Airport, Hamad and Ruwais ports, and the Abu Samra border. These points will be connected to the Al Nadeeb Electronic System of the Customs Authority.
