Oman’s green economy in focus at Inspire Oman Summit
text_fieldsOman’s efforts to develop a sustainable economy will be in focus at the inaugural Inspire Oman Summit on October 14, 2026, with business leaders set to discuss waste management, resource recovery and investment opportunities in the green economy.
The event will take place at the St. Regis Al Mouj Muscat in strategic partnership with the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI). A dedicated panel will examine the country’s sustainability goals and the role of the circular economy in economic development.
Under Oman Vision 2040, the Sultanate is working to diversify its economy beyond its traditional reliance on oil production while protecting its natural environment and cultural heritage. Its initiatives cover urban development, renewable energy and environmental conservation.
Oman aims to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, with renewable energy playing a central role in its plans. Coastal areas, including Duqm and Dhofar, are being developed as major green hydrogen hubs, supported by wind and solar power generation. Solar panels and wind turbines are also becoming part of the country’s energy landscape.
Urban sustainability projects led by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning are intended to make cities more environmentally friendly. Marine conservation efforts include large-scale mangrove planting to protect coastal biodiversity and the protection of wildlife areas such as Ras Al Jinz, known for its rare sea turtles.
These initiatives are also creating opportunities for investment in green bonds and sustainable tourism, attracting international interest in Oman’s developing green economy.
The summit’s sustainability panel will bring together three expatriate business leaders who have developed commercial models around waste management in Oman. They will discuss metal waste recycling, water reclamation and lubricant re-refining.
Metal waste recycling uses advanced technologies to process industrial and construction waste into reusable raw materials. Water reclamation involves treating wastewater to standards suitable for agricultural and industrial use. Lubricant re-refining processes used engine oil and industrial lubricants through advanced refining techniques to produce high-quality fuel or new lubricants.
The session will examine how waste can be converted into valuable resources and how these businesses can contribute to a circular economy. It will also highlight the commercial potential of sustainability, including opportunities for investments worth millions of dollars.
Government incentives, including tax exemptions for recycling industries, are helping attract entrepreneurs to Oman’s waste management sector. The panel will explore how such measures can support businesses that combine resource recovery with environmental objectives.
Beyond sustainability, the summit will feature sessions including ‘Meet the Pioneer’ and discussions on the India-Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
