Oman to announce Muscat Metro details within two months
text_fieldsOman will announce details of the Muscat Metro project within the next two months, following the signing of a national transport-tracking initiative, the Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology said on Monday.
Minister Saeed bin Hamoud Al Maawali made the announcement during the ministry’s annual press briefing, saying the update comes as part of efforts to improve urban transport and public mobility in the capital.
According to the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, the proposed metro will span about 50 kilometres, connecting Sultan Haitham City with the Ruwi Central Business District. The route is planned to include around 36 stations and will pass through Muscat International Airport. It will also serve key urban areas, including the proposed downtown districts of Ghala and Al Khuwair.
During the briefing, the ministry said the logistics sector attracted investments of about OMR3.4 billion under the Tenth Five-Year Plan. Officials said the transport, logistics, communications and information technology sectors have supported the goals of Oman Vision 2040, particularly in investment growth, financial sustainability, private sector involvement and economic diversification.
The ministry also reported attracting around OMR1.2 billion in investments in the communications and information technology sector in 2025, including nearly OMR65 million linked to artificial intelligence projects.
Revenue growth in 2025 reached about 17.4 percent in the ports sector, 9.4 percent in maritime activities and 18 percent in land transport.
