Oman: One-stop customs permits reach 140,000, fastest issued in 16 seconds

Oman’s Directorate General of Customs has issued more than 140,000 electronic permits in 2025 through its one-stop system, with some approvals completed in as little as 16 seconds, according to officials.

The performance was highlighted during World Customs Day, held under the theme “Customs protects society through vigilance and commitment”, as an example of how digital integration across government entities is changing customs procedures and logistics operations in the country.

Brigadier Said bin Khamis Al Ghaithi, Director General of Customs, said the one-stop station operates as part of the Bayan platform, which links customs with multiple government agencies. The system allows permits to be processed fully online, alongside risk management procedures and post-clearance audits.

He said the model ensures that regulatory compliance does not delay trade while maintaining strict oversight to prevent prohibited goods from entering Oman. Digital transformation, he said, has become a core tool supporting both security and economic activity.

In addition to permit processing, the Directorate handled more than 1.29 million customs declarations in 2025. The use of artificial intelligence in customs valuation and risk management led to the detection of more than 1,000 smuggling or prohibited import cases, a 10 percent increase compared to 2024.

Officials said the one-stop initiative supports Oman’s economic diversification plans by cutting administrative delays for businesses, improving trade flow and supporting investment.

The Directorate is also working to develop national expertise to manage advanced digital systems. Support services include public awareness programs and a 24-hour toll-free call centre for traders and passengers.
