On Sunday, Israel launched airstrikes on a Hezbollah "command centre" in Beirut, Lebanon, in response to an alleged assassination attempt on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The strike followed accusations from Netanyahu that the Iran-backed group targeted his home with a drone, though no casualties occurred as he and his wife were not present at the time.

Fighting intensified on two fronts, with Israel also continuing its offensive in Gaza.

The Israeli military stated that it had struck Hezbollah's intelligence headquarters and an underground weapons facility in Beirut. Meanwhile, Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA) reported that residential areas in Haret Hreik, near a mosque and hospital, were also hit. The Israeli military claimed to have eliminated several Hezbollah militants and intercepted around 70 projectiles fired from Lebanon into Israel.

In Gaza, an airstrike in Beit Lahia killed 73 people, according to local civil defence officials. Israel stated that the target was a Hamas facility but disputed the reported death toll. The Israeli military said its operations in Gaza targeted Hamas militants, resulting in the deaths of dozens of fighters.

Tensions have continued to rise following the assassination of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar in Gaza by Israeli forces. In southern Lebanon, Israeli airstrikes hit multiple targets, killing over 65 Hezbollah members, according to the Israeli military. Hezbollah, along with other Iran-backed groups in the region, has vowed to continue its fight against Israel.

The latest conflict stems from a broader war that began after Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on Israel in October 2023, killing over 1,200 people. Since then, Israel's military campaign in Gaza has claimed the lives of over 42,000 people, mostly civilians, according to Gaza’s health ministry.
