ICJ rules out racial discrimination allegations by Qatar

On Thursday, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) dismissed a case filed by Qatar against the UAE alleging racial discrimination. The ICJ stated that it has no jurisdiction on the blockade measures imposed by the UAE.
The United Nations' highest court sustained UAE's objections that the blockade measures were solely based on nationality, not racially discriminatory. Qatar filed the case in 2018, following a sanction imposed by Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt alleging Qatar of "extremism".
Doha argued that UAE had violated the 1965 International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD), during the blockade. However, ICJ ruled the subject matter was out of its jurisdiction.
Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries ended its curb on Qatar, opening all borders to the Arab state, in January at the 41st GCC summit.
