External affairs minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday during a virtual meeting with the members of the GCC

New Delhi: External affairs minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday asked the members of the Gulf Corporation Council (GCC) to provide facilities for the Indian workers and professionals who are willing to return to their workplaces amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ministry brought up the issue during a virtual meeting with the members of the GCC. The ministry urged the council to facilitate the return of the workers with sustainable travel agreements with India.

Jaishankar also thanked GCC for taking special care to ensure the return of the large Indian Diaspora during the pandemic and assured that India would continue to work together to tackle COVID-19.

GCC secretary-general Nayef Falah M Al-Hajraf, Bahrain's foreign minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, and the UAE's minister of state for foreign affairs Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash and Senior representatives from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar took part in the meeting.
