The tourism and hotel sector in the UAE reported a rise of 158.3 per cent over the third quarter of 2020 compared to the second quarter of the same year, according to the latest figures released by the Federal Agency for Competition and Statistics.

The significant growth recorded in the tourism and hotel sectors reflects the strong resumption of activity in one of the most important economic sectors in the country, after the slowdown that took control of it in light of the new circumstances imposed by the Covid-19 epidemic and necessitated the temporary closure of tourism activities worldwide.

In detail, the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Center figures showed an increase in the number of hotel guests in the UAE to about 3.385 million guests during the period from July to August of 2020 compared to 1.31 million guests in the period from March to the end of June of the same year.

The growth in the number of guests coincided with the increase in the number of hotel establishments and apartments that returned to work, as the number increased to 1032 at the end of the third quarter of this year compared to 929 facilities at the end of the second quarter of the same year. While the number of hotel rooms increased From 133,031 rooms to 164,935 rooms during the same period.

The number of hotel guests in the country reached 953,584 thousand guests during the month of July of this year, while the number of nights they spent reached 2.937 million nights, before it increased to 1.372 million guests, 3.982 million nights in August and 1.059 million guests and 4.070 million nights in September.
