Three candidates, one impersonator, and the middlemen were sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment by a special Central Bureau of Investigation court in connection with an examination conducted by Madhya Pradesh's Vyapam 12 years ago.

A case was filed against the accused based on the accusations that he impersonated a Vyapam examiner while taking the Pre-Medical Test (PMT-2010) in Guna (Madhya Pradesh). On the roll numbers of Prajapati and Rajput, it was alleged that the photographs of these two candidates did not match the examinees who were taking the said examination in this examination center. Mohd Imran and Rajesh Prasad were found to be impersonating candidates Rajput and Prajapati, respectively, the CBI said.

In response to a complaint lodged by the Centre Superintendent of the Govt. Post Graduate College, Guna with the Police Station in Cantt, the state police arrested four people during the investigation.

Taking over the investigation from the state police, the CBI had traced Rajput, who had been absconding since the case was filed. "The evidence against him was strengthened." the CBI stated. After collecting expert opinions on the thumb impressions and handwriting of the accused, including Prasad and Prajapati, the agency filed a charge sheet in June 2016 against five accused and a supplementary charge sheet against another defendant in May 2017.

Six people have been convicted of impersonating candidates Deepak Prajapati and Jetendra Kumar Rajput, middlemen Suresh Kumar Patel and Vedratan, and impersonating impersonators Imran and Prasad.
