PMK urges govt for all-party meeting on NEET exemption bill

PMK founder S Ramadoss on Saturday appealed to the DMK government to conduct an all-party meeting for getting exemption from the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test before the next academic year of admission process begins(NEET).

The sole way ahead is to get the NEET exemption bill approved, the senior PMK leader said on Saturday. Neither should students be made 'scapegoats' for the NEET exemption issue nor should the dreams of students from economically weaker sections be destroyed. No more poor rural students from Tamil Nadu should be allowed to lose their life because of the fear of NEET, he added.

The NEET exemption bill is yet to get assent from the Tamil Nadu governor. There is no clarity as to when it would be forwarded to President Ram Nath Kovind, Ramadoss said.

A commission headed by retired judge Justice Rajan was constituted by the TN government to study the impact of NEET. The commission recommended that the exams be scrapped in the state and instead, students be given admissions based on their marks in plus-two examinations.

Ruling DMK is a strong opponent of the NEET examination. It is presently receiving flak from all quarters for being unable to implement its poll promise on scrapping the NEET exam.
