Karnataka announces immediate opening of medical education institutions

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government announced that all health and medical-related educational institutes in the states can reopen immediately. All medical, dental, AYUSH, nursing, and other allied healthcare courses are now allowed to conduct physical classes.

The government announced on Friday that all who enter the campus - students, teaching staff, non-teaching staff - must have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

All educational institutes in Karnataka were shut down on April 21 due to the second wave of Covid-19. Deputy Chief Minister Dr CN Ashwathnarayan, on July 12, announced that colleges will reopen once the students and staff members are vaccinated.

Deputy CM said that the state is in the process of preparing to open the colleges and examinations are going to be held as per the schedule. He added that a vaccination programme has also been ongoing inviting students to get vaccinated.

All colleges are instructed to ensure that Covid-19 protocols are strictly followed by everyone. Anyone found violating safety guidelines issued by the government will be charged under Sections 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 and Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant).

Karnataka has been making progress in following Covid-19 protocols. The state reported 1977 new cases and 3199 recoveries yesterday. 462 cases were reported in Bengaluru Urban. There are 32,383 active cases in the state.
