New Delhi: Students who passed from class 12 from all over the country have written to the Education Ministry objecting to the use of a common entrance test for all central universities including the Delhi University.

The students warned the Ministry and the DU authorities that the proposal will favour richer students who had access to coaching classes and have been preparing for entrance tests like KEE and NEET. Until now, Delhi University and many other Central universities have only used class 12 board marks as criteria for admission.

The CUCET was used for 14 new central universities and four state universities till last year. The new proposal to cover all university admissions with the same test has taken urgency after the board exams were cancelled due to the pandemic.

The National Testing Agency has yet to make a final decision about the Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET).

The test will cover topics like language, general awareness, mathematical aptitude, and analytical skill along with the student's chosen subjects. The letter pointed out that the students have been focused on board exams until now, and it will be difficult for them to face the aptitude test.

Universities like DU have courses that are open for students who have not studied the subject before. There were no restrictions in choosing the subjects for graduation.

The science students may not be prepared for the general awareness section. Students also said that students of the arts and commerce stream will need time to study logical reasoning and quantitative ability. The CBSE is to declare an alternate marks tabulation policy for Class XII students on July 31.

The letter said that most people don't even know about CUCET and announcing it suddenly will leave students with no resources and time to prepare.
