Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala): Actor Prakash Raj has thrown his weight behind Shashi Tharoor saying that the Congress candidate seeking re-election in Thiruvanathapuram constituency will win again.

Tharoor is taking on Union Minister of State, Rajeev Chandrashekhar and Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Panniyan Ravindran.

Prakash Raj told news agency ANI that Thiruvananthapuram received a lot from Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, adding ‘It is going to be his term again. I am here to just stand by him, not because he is a great friend of mine, but because he has given me for the last decade hope, happiness and joy that I have a voice with such a representative of the country.’

Holding the constituency since 2009, Tharoor is reportedly facing huge a challenge from the BJP candidate Rajeev Chandrashekhar.

The CPM-led Left Democratic Front (LDF), nevertheless part of INDIA bloc, has not hammered out any seat-sharing agreement with the Congress in the state. CPI leader Pannyan Raveendran won the seat in 2005.

All 20 Lok Sabha constituencies in Kerala will vote on April 26 and in the 2019 polls the Congress won 19 out of the 20 seats reducing the LDF to one seat.

The BJP is actively working to open account in the state and Thiruvananathapuram is one its major targets.
