The 21-year-old, hailing from Noor Mahal House, Peruvallath Paramba, Irikkur, Kannur, reportedly fell at around 11:30 p.m. Preliminary investigations suggest she slipped while attempting to retrieve her headset, which had fallen onto the gypsum board outside the corridor railing.
Shahana, who resided on the fifth floor of the hostel, had joined her classmates on the seventh floor that evening, a common gathering spot for students. During a phone call, her headset slipped, and in an attempt to recover it, she lost her balance and fell.
Her classmates immediately alerted the college authorities, and she was rushed to the medical college for emergency treatment. Despite initial efforts to stabilize her condition, she was later transferred to Aster Medcity, Ernakulam, where she succumbed to her injuries early Sunday morning.
Aluva DYSP and the team have inspected the hostel premises, and a case of unnatural death has been registered. A detailed inquiry and inquest proceedings are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding her tragic death.
Shahana's postmortem was conducted at Kalamassery Medical College. Her untimely demise has left the college community in shock and mourning.
