Thiruvananthapuram: Malayalam superstar Mohanlal took to Twitter on Wednesday to reveal that his upcoming big-budget action period drama 'Marakkar: The Lion of the Arabian Seas" was the first Malayalam film to gross over 100 crores in reservations alone. The film will release on December 2.

Terming it as a 'historic moment', the veteran actor said that the film would screen in 4100 theatres across the world with an estimated 16,000 shows a day. A new poster was also released with the tweet where the claim of ₹100 crores through reservations was made.

The full-length trailer for the film was released on Tuesday with viewer's hailing the effects and epic visuals. 'Marakkar' received the National Awards for Best Feature Film, Costume Design and Best Special Effects, also bagging three Kerala State Awards for Special Jury, Costume Design, Dubbing and Choreography.

Director Priyadarshan who helmed the film said that he has taken some slight cinematic liberties with the costumes and events due to lack of accurate historical information in a report by The Hindu. 'Marakkar' is also being hailed as one of the most expensive films made in Malayalam with a budget-stretching over 100 crores.

The film stars Nedumudi Venu, Prabhu, Suresh Kumar, Arjun Sarja, Suniel Shetty, Manju Warrier, Keerthy Suresh, Siddique, Mukesh and Pranav Mohanlal.
