Kochi: 5 members of a family, including 3 kids, found dead in rented house

Kochi: Five persons, including three children, were found dead in a rented house in Vaduthala here on Saturday, police said.
The deceased comprise two women — identified as Kanakalatha and her daughter Aswathy — and Aswathy’s three children. The family, originally from Thiruvananthapuram, had been staying at the house for the past few months while undergoing treatment at a nearby private hospital.
According to officials of the Ernakulam North Police Station, the family had not been seen outside since Friday, prompting the house owner to check the premises, where all five were found dead.
Police have launched an investigation and are working to ascertain further details. Preliminary suspicion indicates that the two women may have killed the children before ending their own lives.
Efforts are underway to contact the relatives of the deceased and initiate inquest proceedings. A case will be registered at the Ernakulam North Police Station following a preliminary probe, police added.
