Thiruvananthapuram: With an intended aim to boost the efficiency of public sector units (PSUs) in the state, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the Kerala Public Enterprises (Selection and Recruitment) Board on Wednesday.

The autonomous board, established by the state government, is tasked with recruiting efficient and skilled candidates for various positions within PSUs through a transparent selection process.

During the inauguration ceremony at its office in Vellayambalam, Chief Minister Vijayan emphasized the board's role in elevating the performance of public sector institutions. He stated that the initial focus of the board would be on the recruitment of PSUs under the Department of Industries and Commerce, with the possibility of extending its services to other departments.

The chief minister highlighted the crucial role of public sector units in industrial development, underscoring the need to prioritize their contributions alongside the private sector. The move aligns with the government's commitment to fulfilling promises outlined in the ruling LDF's manifesto.

According to a release from the office of Industries Minister P Rajeev, the board's primary objective is to identify capable and skilled candidates for positions within PSUs. The recruitment process, characterized by transparency and adherence to reservation principles, aims to bring professionalism to the forefront.

The board's initial responsibilities include overseeing the selection process for various posts in 20 public sector institutions under the Department of Industry and Commerce. Notably, the board has already completed the selection process for the appointment of managing directors in 12 PSUs.

The establishment of the board follows a government order issued in May, constituting a special recruitment board comprising five members. Former Chief Secretary V P Joy serves as the chairman of the board, reflecting a commitment to bringing in experienced leadership.
