Don't threaten Governor Arif Khan: BJP tells CPI(M) in Kerala
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: Claiming that Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan was doing his job, the BJP unit in the state asked the ruling CPI(M) not to threaten him, IANS reports.
Addressing reporters in Kozhikode district, Kerala BJP state president K Surendran said that Khan would not be an orphan and BJP would extend him support.
When asked about the CPI-M and Left Democratic Front announcing a Raj Bhavan march on November 15, Surendran said, "Chief Minister's residence Cliff House is not far off from the Raj Bhavan and added that the party would extend support to the Governor."
He further said that Kerala Chief Minister Pinayai Vijayan's words against the Governor were derogatory, adding that the BJP won't be a mute spectator in the CPI-M's and Left Front's move against Arif Mohammed Khan.
Vijayan on Monday said Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan was "acting as a tool of the RSS". The spat between the government and the governor has played out in the media for too long, with parties to the conflict keeping on targeting each other.
Vijayan's comment came a day after the governor asked the vice-chancellors of nine varsities in the state to tender their resignation.
While calling the governor's directive "Undemocratic and "encroachment", the chief minister said that the governor's post is to uphold the Constitution's dignity, not to act against the government, according to India Today.
The directive from the Governor asked for the resignation of vice-chancellors of the University of Kerala, Mahatma Gandhi University, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kerala University of Fisheries & Ocean Studies, Kannur University, APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, University of Calicut, and Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University.
