CM's controversial luxury bus set to hit the road for tourists
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: The controversial luxury bus in which Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his entire cabinet travelled around the 140 assembly constituencies as part of their six-week statewide tour starting in November, is back in the news.
The bus, owned by the state-run Transport Corporation, will now be repurposed for tourism services.
The luxury bus, laden with amenities and built at a cost of over Rs one crore, had attracted huge attention and controversy alike while it served as the mobile office of the state’s top brass.
The bus will undergo a few modifications including the removal of the seat at the front where the Chief Minister sat during the entire tour, the automated reclining seats and the special lift feature. However, the attached toilet in the bus will be retained for passengers.
The Congress-led opposition raked up the need for a lift that was installed in the bus which facilitated easy boarding and alighting for the CM and the Ministers.
Additionally, the bus will be fitted with rooftop air conditioning, extra luggage storage space, and larger glass windows for an enhanced viewing experience.
The bus will be handed over to KSRTC, once the periodic maintenance is completed.
The bus also was heavily trolled after central committee member and veteran CPI-M leader A.K.Balan said that the bus after its ride will be placed at a museum and thousands will come and have a look at it because it was used by CM Vijayan.
The bus is expected to return to the state shortly and all eyes are on the way it’s going to be used.
