Thiruvananthapuram: Amid the war of words between Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and new Congress president K. Sudhakaran ongoing, BJP on Saturday demanded a murder attempt probe against Vijayan following Congress leader K. Gopi's allegation.

Following the allegation, Union Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muraleedharan on Saturday demanded that an attempt to murder case against Vijayan be lodged.

K Gopi in Sudhakaran's press conference on Saturday who also hails from Vijayan's village in Kannur, recalled an old incident, that in 1977 when 26 beedi workers were terminated from society, they led a protest. Gopi alleged that while leading the protest, Vijayan with a sword led a group of people, brandished his sword and hit him when Gopi blocked the attacker with his hand and in the process got hurt in the hand. Gopi displayed the mark at the presser.

Gopi added that despite his complaint to the local police then, there was no further action in the case.

Muraleedharan told the media in the state capital that if the Congress party is serious in the allegation, they should register a police complaint.

Muraleedharan added that there is no time limit to an attempt to murder case and said that Sudhakaran should ask Gopi to go forward and register a fresh complaint.

The union minister of state also pointed out that in the past two days both these leaders have been revisiting their college days at the Government Brennen College and have been saying about their deeds then and it shows that both of them were goons and criminals.

In an interview given to Manorama Weekly, Sudhakaran had said he had beaten up Vijayan when both of them were students in Government Brennen College in Thalassery. "He may have hallucinated about it," Vijayan said in reply when he was asked about Sudhakaran's comment.

"My appeal to both of them is not to portray a great institution like Brennen College by distorting its greatness, and lowering it as a place of goons," said Muraleedharan.
