Rising water level in rivers, train services hit on Saturday too
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: The Railways have announced that trains will not conduct services on Saturday as the water level in rivers exceeded safe limits.
While the water level in Periyar reached the level of the railway bridge in Aluva-Angamaly region, the water levels of Pampa and Manimalayar have reached the level of the bridges in Kottayam region.
The technical section of the Railways informed that the water level is being examines every hour and that it is not safe to allow the passage of trains as the waters are flowing close to the girder of the bridge.
The arrangements made due to the cancellation of trains are not sufficient to alleviate the travel woes.
The Chennai-Egmore, Jan Shatabdi intercity, Vanchinad and special passenger services conducted services through Ernakulam-Alappuzha-Thiruvananthapuram route on Friday.
The same schedule will be continued on Saturday as well.
The Guruvayur-Chennai began journey from Ernakulam on Friday. The intercity began its journey from Ernakulam and Vanchinad Express from Kayamkulam.
The Jan Shatabdi is running on Ernakulam-Thiruvananthapuram route only.
Reservation facility have been arranged in trains running through Tirunelveli for passengers of the cancelled trains.
The long distance trains reaching the state are ending the journey at various stations starting from Kozhikode. They will begin the return journey from these stations.
Rajadhani Express, Nizamuddin-Ernakulam Express, Nethravathi Express, Ernakulam-Pune Express and Chandigarh Express ended journey at Kozhikode.
Trains have been cancelled in Kollam-Sengottai route due to landslides. The Madurai-Kollam passenger will not conduct service between Punalur and Kollam.
Punalur-Kanyakumari passengerwill start from Kollam. The Guruvayur-Punalur passenger will start from Kollam.
