UDF hartal in T’puram district Wednesday

Thiruvananthapuram: The UDF has called for a dawn-to-dusk hartal in Thiruvananthapuram district on Wednesday in protest against the police excesses towards the youth congress activists who staged a strike in the self-financing issue.

Milk, newspapers and hospitals have been exempted from the strike.

Youth Congress cadres clashed with the police during protest march held at the state capital on Tuesday morning over the controversy surrounding self-financing medical admission in the state.

During the march, the protestors reportedly hurled stones at the police following which the police fired tear gas at the mob.

Dean Kuriakose and CR Mahesh, on an indefinite hunger strike for the past eight days, were admitted to Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College after the incident. The protest was against the fee hike in private medical colleges.
