Kozhikode: A person has been arrested in connection with the murder of IUML worker Aslam at Thooneri in Nadapuram near here.

The police registered the arrest Kuttu aka Nidhin on Tuesday. He is accused of giving the Innova car to the gang that murdered Aslam.

There were reports on Monday that the probing team had taken Kuttu and another person, said to have attended a liquor-party with the suspects, into custody.

20-year-old Aslam was hacked to death by some unidentified persons on August 11, triggering tension in Nadapuram area.

Aslam was riding a two-wheeler when a group of persons who came in an Innova car attacked him around 6 pm. He was admitted to a private hospital but succumbed to injuries soon.

He was among the persons who were recently acquitted by a court in the case related to the murder of DYFI activist Shibin last year.

19-year-old Shibin was murdered allegedly by an armed group at Thooneri in Nadapuram in January last year.

Police had booked Aslam and 16 others in connection with the murder. A special additional sessions court here in June this year had acquitted all the accused.
