Kochi: CPI-M Saturday demanded a court monitored CBI probe into the Titanium case in which the vigilance court has ordered further investigation against Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.

"The Titanium case should be investigated by CBI and should be monitored by court," CPI-M state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan told reporters here.

A vigilance court recently rejected the report of the Vigilance and Anti-corruption Bureau into alleged irregularities in awarding a contract to a company outside the state for setting up an effluent plant at public sector Travancore Titanium Products (TTP), during Chandy's initial stint as Chief Minister in 2005.

The Chief Minister had yesterday made it clear he would not resign and was prepared to face any investigation.

Vijayan said after the LDF government came to power, two probes were launched in the Titanium case.

The Left Front had not implemented the UDF government's effluent treatment plant project. But a project with lesser cost had been implemented, he said.

Another senior CPI-M leader M A Baby also criticised Chandy's stand in the Titanium case.
