New Delhi: Rage and angst of the country's youth on the worsening economic condition poured out in social media as they observed "National Unemployment Day" on Thursday. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had said that the youth are forced to observe Unemployment Day on 17th September, birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Social media were flooded by flyers and trolls which demanded jobs while wishing happy birthday to the prime minister. The unemployment day hashtag, with more than 3 million tweets, was first in trending in politics category for several hours on Thursday.


Narendra Modi is celebrating his 70th birthday today. Rahul Gandhi in a morning tweet tagged with Hindi news report on the grave situation of unemployment in various north Indian states.

Tweets cited the highest unemployment rates in 45 years to highlight the Prime Minister's failure to create jobs.

According to the data of Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy, the unemployment rate in urban India in the week ending 6 September 2020 was 8.32 per cent.

Many users also raised the issue of delay in exam results of SSC results and urged the government to make reforms for students.
