You should not drink liquor anyway: Nitish Kumar tells people after liqour deaths

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar told people not to drink liquor, adding that those who drink will die.

Nitish Kumar's reaction comes after 30 people died in Chhapra town of Saran district consuming illegal liquor, according to NDTV.

His line of argument suggests that the government is less likely to financially support the families of the dead. And Bihar has been continuing with a liquor ban since 2016.

In the assembly, the BJP hit out at the JDU-RJD government over alleged laxity in implementing prohibition.

"Jo sharaab peeyega, wo toh marega hi na... Udaharan saamne hai — peeyoge toh maroge." Kumar said in Hindi.

The chief minister later said the government has been running massive social awareness programmes against alcohol consumption.

Kumar referred to Mahatma Gandhi and scientific researches favuoring prohibition while saying that liquor is bad thing.

He added that people have been dying from toxic liquor for long which happens across the country.

Further he argued that people died of spurious liquor even when there was no prohibition, and a huge number of people died from spurious liquor in other states as well.

"Remember, you should not drink liquor anyway. Most people have agreed with the prohibition policy. But some people will make mistakes," he reportedly said.

Gujarat and Bihar are currently having prohibition in place with the former reporting deaths from spurious liquor in the past, according to the report.

While promising to take action against, Kumar told to the people to be vigilant and added there is something wrong in the liquor being sold illegally when there is a ban in place.
