Woman approaches Mamata Banerjee’s residence with knife, TMC seeks probe
text_fieldsKolkata: The Trinamool Congress has raised concerns over an alleged security breach near West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s residence in Kolkata after a woman reportedly behaved aggressively in the area while carrying a knife.
Dola Sen, joint general secretary of the All India Trinamool Congress, submitted a complaint to the officer-in-charge of Kalighat police station, seeking action under Section 173 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
According to the complaint, the incident occurred around 6 pm on Tuesday when a woman identified as Tannishtha Saha allegedly arrived near the residence in an intoxicated state. She reportedly claimed to be Banerjee’s niece, used abusive language and attempted to approach the chief minister aggressively.
The complaint also alleged that the woman acted in a manner intended to damage Banerjee’s reputation. Sen urged the police to investigate the incident, citing concerns over the security of the chief minister, who is provided Z-plus security cover.
Three video clips were reportedly submitted along with the complaint as supporting material. Videos purportedly showing the woman being restrained by people in the area have also circulated on social media.
The allegations have not been independently verified, and further details about the police investigation were not immediately available.
