Will rename all colonialistic symbols: Uttarakhand CM
text_fieldsDehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that he had issued instructions to rename all the symbols of colonialism in the state.
He said that post-Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ascension to power in the centre, symbols of colonialism, were being changed. Roads and cities, having British-era names, were renamed in Uttarakhand, Asian News International reported, quoting him.
The CM's announcement comes months past PM Modi unveiled Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's statue and inaugurated the renamed 'Kartavya Path' in Delhi, which was known as Rajpath.
The CM later talked about the revenue the state accumulated from Kedarnath and Yamunotri Yatra this year. It had done Rs 211 crore business through the pilgrimage. CM said that Char Dham Yatra was very successful, and every section associated with the pilgrimage, including the government, made a very good income.
On Friday, Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN) MD Bansidhar Tiwari informed that the state made around 211 crores from the Kedarnath and Yamunotri Yatra.
GMVN MD Tiwari told ANI, "In Uttarakhand, this time around 211 crores business has been done in Kedarnath and Yamunotri Yatra only by horse-mules, helicopter tickets and travel fare of Dandi-Kandi."
Later, he reacted to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal's god-goddesses-currency-note comments. Dhami said that Kejriwal made such comments to please a particular section of people in society.
On Friday, Kejriwal said that he had written to PM Modi, requesting him to print pictures of Lord Ganesh and Goddess Lakshmi on currency notes. He had claimed that 130 crore Indians desired the same.
Dhami expressed confidence that BJP will come to power in Himachal Pradesh, just like Uttarakhand, since it is a Devabhoomi. Himachal Pradesh is going to polls on November 12, and votes will be counted on December 8.
