Kolkata: Judicial officers start adjudicating voters’ documents flagged under the “logical discrepancy” category today, following last week’s Supreme Court directive. Proceedings are slated to begin after 11 a.m., with adjudicators’ decisions final.
The Calcutta High Court has deployed 150 session judges initially, totaling around 250 officers. District-level oversight falls to three-member committees: the district judge, district magistrate (also electoral officer), and superintendent of police.
About 100 officers handle NDPS and POCSO courts, with the rest from other sessions courts.
A Sunday meeting in Kolkata briefed officers on procedures, restricting verification to the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) 13 specified identity documents. This addresses Trinamool Congress objections seeking broader state-issued proofs.
The final electoral roll publishes February 28, omitting adjudication cases. Supplementary rolls follow completion, with ECI aiming to finish by February 28 despite ~50 lakh documents raising deadline concerns.
The High Court canceled all judicial leaves until March 9 (except medical emergencies), ordering immediate return to duty.
