US Singer Mary Millben claims foreign funding behind CJP protests
text_fieldsNew Delhi: American singer Mary Millben has alleged that US-based donors are funding the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), claiming the group’s activities are part of a broader attempt by foreign interests to create unrest in India.
In a post on X on Wednesday, Millben accused unnamed donors of targeting conservative leaders worldwide by recruiting people educated in the United States, encouraging them to return to their home countries and financing movements that could trigger instability. She did not provide evidence to substantiate the funding allegation.
Her remarks came amid protests by the CJP and opposition parties seeking the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in electoral rolls and the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
Millben referred to CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, who studied at Boston University before gaining attention in India through satirical content targeting the ruling BJP. However, she did not name him directly while describing the alleged funding network.
A vocal supporter of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Millben urged Indians, particularly young people, to oppose what she described as attempts to disrupt the country’s governance. She also called for a peaceful counter-movement in defence of democracy and freedom.
Millben came into the spotlight in India during the country’s 75th Independence Day celebrations in 2022 and later performed the national anthem during Modi’s 2023 visit to the United States.
