UP polls: Amit Shah in Kairana pressing on 'Hindu Exodus'

Kairana/UP: Home Minister Amit Shah went to Kairana of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday and paid door-to-door visits to families who allegedly suffered Samajwadi Party regime's threat to migrate from the area, PTI reported.

The issue of Hindus being forced to migrate from the area was raised during UP's 2017 election season as well, and now it has surfaced again as BJP's flagship tool for election campaigns in the area. During various rallies recently, BJP leaders claimed that under the Yogi Adityanath government, the law and order situation has improved.

In Kairana, a city and municipal board in Shamli district of western UP, BJP gave party ticket to late Hukum Singh's eldest daughter Mriganka Singh against RL-Samajwadi Party's Iqra Hasan. Hukum Singh had won Kairana many times.

The residents of the area crowded to have a glimpse of Shah and told Shim their security concerns there.

The visit was the first of the programmes for Amit Shah in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the state assembly polls. He is monitoring BJP's campaign in UP for the assembly elections using his understanding of the caste situations of the state and has personal connections with party workers in the state. He is believed to be the chief architect behind BJP's successive wins in the state in Lok Sabha in 2014 and 2019, as well as the 2017 UP elections.

SP first gave candidature to sitting MLA Nahid Hassan, but he got arrested under Gangster Act on January 15, after filing his nomination. Then they made Iqra Hasan their candidate.
