Union Budget 2021-2022: Eyeing on polls, substantial project allocations for four states

New Delhi: The Union budget 2021 contains substantial allocations for projects in the four states i.e, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Assam, where assembly elections are due in the coming months.
The funds in the Union Budget 2021 tabled by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday, are aimed at boosting infrastructure expansion. Thus, the budget allocates Rs 65,000 crore for national highway expansion in Kerala which will cover a distance of 1,100 kilometer.
Again in Kerala, Kochi Metro will receive an assistance fund of Rs 1,957 crore and will help the metro lines get longer by 11.5 km.
For road expansion in Tamil nadu, an amount of Rs 1.03 lakh crore and for West Bengal Rs 25,00 crore have been allocated. Assam will also receive similar grants.
Phase-2 of Chennai Metro (stretch of 180 km), the amount allocated will be Rs 63,246, while 58.19 km of Bengaluru Metro has been allocated Rs 40,700 crore.
In Maharashtra, Nagpur Metro will receive Rs 59,000 crore through this year's buget.
Overall, the Finance Minister said that 27 metro projects will enjoy funds from this year's budget.
Meanwhile many leaders have come out against the budget calling it as useless budget.
