1.5 million people lost jobs in August as unemployment rises
text_fieldsThe rise of unemployment has drastically struck both the nation's economy and individual life at stake.
According to the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy, the national unemployment rate rose from 6.95% in July to 8.32% in August. The economic growth has also slowed down due to the worsened state of unemployment.
The organisation has mentioned the data of employees fell from about 40 crores in July to 39.7 crores in August. 13 lakh job losses are from rural India alone. It's all because of the coronavirus pandemic and its waves which washed away the job opportunities, and upbringing poverty in rural areas.
Urban employment rose to 9.87% in August and 8.3% in July which was 7.27 in March. The vendors and daily waged folks were facing trouble during the pandemic. Due to low crop sowing during the Kharif season, rural unemployment also rose to 7.64% in August from 6.34% in July.
''The decline in job opportunities in August is mainly because of decline in job opportunities in the agriculture sector, says MD of CMIE Mahesh Vyas to NDTV. The job crisis will persist for a few months at least, KR Shyam Sundar, a labour economist, remarked. "Unless the formal sectors show great promise, recovery of good quality jobs will take time," he added.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticised the BJP government for the rising unemployment rate through his Twitter page. "Modi government is harmful to employment. They do not promote or support any kind of 'friendless' business or employment but are trying to snatch away those who have jobs. A pretence of self-reliance is expected from the countrymen", he tweeted.
Many of the states in India are reporting a huge number of unemployment rates whereas states like Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan, are still reporting double-digit unemployment rates.
