Trump says US will consider secondary sanctions on India and China
text_fieldsUS President Donald Trump on Tuesday said his administration would have to examine the possibility of imposing secondary sanctions on India and China, while noting that the issue had not yet been discussed.
Speaking during remarks in the Oval Office, Trump was responding to a question on proposed sanctions targeting Russia.
"We'll have to look," Trump said when asked about the possibility of imposing secondary sanctions on India and China.
He added that there was "a good chance" that a Russia sanctions bill would be passed and said lawmakers might also include Iran in the legislation.
"There's a good chance the Russia sanctions bill gets done," Trump said, adding that "they might add Iran."
Asked specifically whether secondary sanctions on China were under consideration, Trump said the matter had "not yet been discussed."
Separately, Trump defended his decision to grant Iran sanctions relief, saying he had "no regrets."
He said he had previously given Tehran an opportunity by lifting the blockade, but did not elaborate further.
