Tripura polls: A party need written promise of separate 'Tipraland'

New Delhi: In Tripura, where elections are assembly elections are around the corner, a party has demanded a separate state and asserted it would ally with BJP only after the Centre give them a promise in writing, NDTV reported.
The party, Tipraha Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (or Tipra Motha), headed by Pradyot Bikram Manikya Deb Barma, wanted a separate state, 'Tipraland', for indigenous communities in Tripura.
Deb Barma said that he had demanded it before and repeated the same that unless the government of India give in writing that the party's demand will be met constitutionally, the party will not make any alliance.
In a video on Twitter, he said that he doesn't blame the people who don't believe it. Since 1977, every regional Tiprasa political party has visited Delhi and returned with an agreement before the elections, but those promises were not fulfilled.

He tweeted, "No alliance — my heart does not agree, and so I have made my decision that I cannot accept New Delhi's offer! Jitega toh jitega harega toh harega but one last fight to karke rahega! (We may win or lose, but this time we'll fight for one last time) I can't betray our cause and our people!"
He said that he went to Delhi and met Amit Shah to demand the same. He has not yet received any written promise so far.
On his Facebook page, he wrote, "Contrary to rumours, there has been NO talks of seat sharing as reported with any party! We have received intimation from the ministry of home affairs that they would like to talk to us on our demand for a constitutional solution to our demand of Greater Tipraland."
Elections are scheduled here on February 16.
