As the allotment of COVID-19 vaccines by the centre is insufficient, the Tamil Nadu government has decided to go for global tender to source covid vaccines. The decision was taken at a meeting of several ministers and officials chaired by Chief Minister MK Stalin.

The 13 lakh vaccines allotted by the centre are not sufficient to vaccinate the 18-44 age group, says a statement issued by the state government. The state government further noted that the Union government had asked the states to procure vaccines on their own while supplying vaccine for those over 45 years.

Stalin further instructed industries and health departments to increase production and source oxygen from steel units in other states by trains, for though the centre increased the oxygen allotment to Tamil Nadu to 419 tonnes from 280 tonnes, it is still insufficient.
