Sweetshop owner in Mumbai threatened by Shiv Sena leader to omit the word 'Karachi' from the signboard

The owner of the famous sweet shop in Mumbai's Bandra West was forced to conceal the word 'Karachi' from his shop following an alleged threat by Shiv Sena leader Nitin Nandgaokar on Thursday. According to the report of ANI, the Shiv Sena leader threatened the shop owner to change the name of the shop to something' Marathi'.

The video of the Shiv Sena leader threatening the shop owner at his shop had gone viral on social media after the former uploaded a video in his Facebook page wherein he's seen demanding the owner to remove the name Karachi from the signboard.In the viral video, the Sena leader can be heard saying,"…We hate the word Karachi… It's the place of terrorists in Pakistan so you need to change this name….our soldiers are dying because of the terrorists and hence this name isn't acceptable in Mumbai and Maharashtra….you keep your name or your family name but not Karachi…we are giving you time and you change it." The main signboard of the shop was later seen covered with newspapers to conceal the word "Karachi".

However, Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP, Sanjay Raut clarified that the demand to rename the sweet shop is not the party's official stance. He took to Twitter and wrote: "Karachi bakery and Karachi sweets have been in Mumbai for the last 60 years. They have nothing to do with Pakistan. It makes no sense to ask for changing their names now. Demand for changing their name is not Shiv Sena's official stance"
