Surendra Koli, acquitted in Nithari killings case, dies by suicide

New Delhi: Nearly two decades after his arrest in the Nithari killings case and months after securing an acquittal in the final case against him, Surendra Koli died by suicide on Friday, NDTV reported.
Koli had spent nearly 19 years in jail after being convicted by the Supreme Court in February 2011. The Allahabad High Court acquitted him in 12 cases related to the killings in October 2023. He later approached the Supreme Court with a curative petition, following which the top court acquitted him in November in the final murder and rape case and ordered his release.
After his acquittal, Koli moved to Haridwar in Uttarakhand, where he was running a tea stall, India Today reported.
The Nithari killings came to light in December 2006 after body parts of children and young adults were traced to the house of Moninder Singh Pandher in Noida’s Nithari village. Police later discovered 19 skeletons there.
The CBI had alleged that Koli was involved in the killings and sexual assaults.
