The Supreme Court has denied bail to former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna, who is facing multiple charges of rape and sexual assault.

A bench comprising Justices Bela M. Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma dismissed his plea, noting Revanna's significant influence in society.

Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, representing Revanna, argued that a charge sheet had already been filed, and pointed out that section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was not initially part of the complaint. The bench, however, upheld the Karnataka High Court's earlier decision from October 21 to deny bail, stating that it could not interfere.

Rohatgi requested permission to reapply after six months, but the bench declined to make any commitment on this request.

In August, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) from Karnataka submitted a detailed 2,144-page charge sheet covering four cases of sexual assault and harassment against Revanna. One case accuses him of raping a woman who worked as a domestic helper for his family. Revanna, son of JD(S) MLA H.D.

Revanna and grandson of former prime minister H.D. Deve Gowda, currently faces two rape charges and one sexual assault allegation.
