New Delhi: The Supreme Court, on Tuesday, adjourned the controversial SNC Lavalin case involving Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for the 34th time.

The case first reached the apex court in 2017.

The adjournment occurred after the CBI requested it during the hearing before the division bench of Justices Surya Kant and Dipankar Dutta.

In December 2017, following the High Court's verdict that exonerated CM Vijayan in the case, the CBI approached the Supreme Court, arguing that he should face trial in the matter.

The case revolves around a loss of Rs 374 crore incurred by the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) in its contract with the Canadian-based SNC Lavalin for the renovation and modernisation of hydroelectric projects in Idukki district, including Pallivasal, Sengulam, and Panniar, in 1996. At that time, Pinarayi Vijayan served as the state power minister in the cabinet of E.K. Nayanar.
